Art in many ways is how we dispel our angst, how we conjure joy, how we decipher our very own humanity. For that experience, an artist’s soul is laid bared to share with the world. And when we observe art in a porous manner, we allow the work to fill in the gaps of our own experience. In this way art connects humanity: our angst, joy and understanding of ourselves and each other. In this exhibit at OMSA Gallery what we see through these seven female artists is how each reaches out to relate their unique, poignant, and poetic vision. In so doing they tell their own stories. And viewing these works, it becomes apparent that these are also our own stories. Of late the zeitgeist increasingly has been witness to the female artist as coming into their own. While the hand and furtive heart of all female artists has been working silently through the evolution, forging the path, just as those who came before them, waiting without watching the clock for the time to come to share the world stage of art, from their place as women. We observe the classic notions of the female form present, but the exhibit also journeys through several art movements with artists conjuring Cubism, Impressionism, Expressionism while referencing Greco-Roman and Rubenesque ideals of the female form to seamlessly blend into an utterly contemporary show. The works in this way transcend time, tradition and barriers, resulting in a rich display of boundless artistic initiative. The thought-provoking Argentine artist, Marina Font, based in Miami, takes an analytical approach to explore and define the female identity. Through gold leaf, colored yarns, painted terracotta, she creates a magical realism of the female form; a roadmap to understanding that universe. As part of the RPM Group, Font creates grand installations, rendering the intimacy of the female experience universally relatable.
