The Miami Symphony Orchestra has been put in charge of the music of the telenovela, La Reina del Sur. Athina Marturet: We are very proud because this, you know, is very good for the Miami Symphony. We have a lot of musicians and composers. Eduardo, my husband, is a composer himself. And he did a lot of the music. So La Reina Del Sur is, well, you know, it is one of the most historical series; it is going to be on Netflix. And the music for it was all recorded with the Miami Symphony. It's symphonic but sometimes mixed with modern tunes. It's really amazing. And I'm very proud because I am going to be doing a new series now with Telemundo. What new series will that be? AM: I cannot say the name yet! As an actress, it really is a dream come true because I can do everything, you know? The role is like an ex-CIA, she fights for freedom. I dance and I do martial arts, so it's a beautiful role. And the name of my role is the same as my name, Athina. So they really wrote it for me. When you heard that the Miami Symphony was going to be in charge of the music for La Reina Del Sur, what was your reaction to the news? AM: Well, we were working on it for like for ten years. We played a beautiful concert in Vizcaya. We did a big opening for La Reina Del Sur, the first one 10 years ago, when it first came to Miami. I'm an actress and Eduardo composes music, so it was something natural. We said, "To be able to do something for Telemundo would be beautiful." And look, after ten years it became reality! Are there any upcoming projects that you are particularly excited about? AM: Plenty! It has been a tough year because of a lot of things. My husband is Venezuelan, and I am Greek but you can say that I'm almost Venezuelan. So you know we have a lot of problems there. We always try to do things and help create consciousness about what is going on there. It was a tough year. But on the other side, creatively, it was really very nice because we had a successful season. We are going to be doing a lot of concerts and fusions. You've had so much success with acting, modeling, and now you're an ambassador for the Miami Symphony Orchestra. What drives you? AM: To me, it's all about friendship really. Love and joy are really what count for me. And I have very good friends here in Miami and that makes every thing. You know, if you have people who are just concerned about their ego, then things slip. If you have good friends, you can do any thing. They support you, they inspire you. My husband and I were lucky because we met special people. It is frustrating when you meet people who are all about their ego. You lose so much energy trying to convince them to come on.
