PROFILE Elemental Expands The contemporary design store opens a new showroom / studio in Wynwood Words by Rebeca Diaz Elemental, a contemporary design store known for its carefully curated collection of innovative objects and furnishings, is now open at the Miami Art District, Wynwood. A perfect complement to the up-and-coming Wynwood neighborhood, Elemental has injected a new perspective, transforming a former dim and drab warehouse into a brightly lit, open showroom. This creative niche for the exploration of concepts and ideas shows its assortment of thought- provoking and interactive products through continuously evolving window displays. Founded by industrial designer Mauricio Gomez in 2008, Elemental opened its doors in a small location in Coral Gables. A few years later, Elemental moved to South Beach on Jefferson Ave and 16th street and simultaneously debuted the first Elemental in Bogota, Colombia. At the beginning of 2011, Elemental started conversations with the Bass Museum of Art to open elemental@thebass the new gift shop/ concept store, and on August of the same year Elemental opened their Showroom / Studio in Wynwood, the Art District of Miami. "Design is a way of thinking and a way of life," shares Mauricio Gomez. Since its inception, the store's inventive approach has strived to bring cutting-edge design from around the world, with the objective of bringing joy and imagination to life and impact people in an emotional way. Elemental's basic design principles are smart design, flawless industrial production that merges technology and sustainable principle and approachable pricing. When it comes to design consultancy, their goal is to deliver innovative perspectives for daily life that breathe a contemporary attitude, function and narrative. Creative services include: Furniture, lighting, interiors, and packaging design as well as product development and graphic communications to clients in the USA and around the world. Elemental Wynwood's Grand Opening event is scheduled for November 30th 7pm- 10pm, right on time to welcome Miami Art Basel 2011 with the Premier of special exhibit: Re-enchanted Forrest (Nov 30th-Jan 1st); a collection we put together with pieces by Frederique Morrel (Fall/Fail "Collapstrophic" exhibition at Maryland Institute College of Art Oct.7-Nov.9), Ibride (Maison & Objet - Automne Hiver 2011, Paris), and Nicolette Brunklaus (Inside Design Amsterdam 2011). Elements inspired by nature transfer feelings of freedom, movement and personality, which create an emotional connection between objects and people. In these modern times, where industrial design is so concerned with obeying trends and has lost its relation to human values, we feel it is important to re- enchant the world by rejecting uniformity and exploring unique materials, texture, color, and shapes that inspire personal memories and tell stories of past, culture, travel and life. By smoothly combining unique hand made pieces and smart industrially produced accessories we aim to provide for a Shopping experience that triggers imagination and provoke simple, ideal happiness. The Opening event on November 30th is by invitation only, but the exhibit will be up until January 1st available during store hours.
