PEOPLE Bob Sinclar Sets the World in Motion The French DJ & music producer moves his audience in more ways than one Words by Marta A. Oppenheimer Sinclar is spelled without an "i" — adding the vowel between the "a" and the "r" is a common mistake, but one that never happens again after listening to Bob Sinclar's sound. Once heard, he makes his mark. Bob Sinclar (born as Christophe Le Friant) possesses a unique talent for mixing music. Interested in this art form since his late teens, he discovered a love for the beat of the music while at a hip-hop party in Paris. He was mesmerized by the DJ's magical way he spun records. His passion eventually prompted him to leave his native France in search of a variety of sounds and cultures. "After playing as a DJ everywhere in Paris, I felt the need to produce my own beats. I was doing the tracks in my home studio, manufacturing all the vinyl in Belgium, traveling by car to London in order to distribute the record in record stores and wholesalers," shares Sinclar with obvious pride of his beginnings. Sinclar went on to start his own record label, Yellow Productions, which gave him the freedom to produce any kind of music he desired. His distinct sound is influenced by multiple cultures: Caribbean, Brazilian, African… Western Dream, his 2006 album, became a hit around the world with tracks like "Love Generation", "World Hold On", "Kiss My Eyes" and "Rock This Party." Sinclar's latest album, Made In Jamaica, is a remix of Sinclar's biggest hits, with a reggae flavor straight from the islands. "Made In Jamaica is a side project I did for my own pleasure. I produced it in Jamaica with legendary reggae producer Sly & Robbie. I had in mind to make a "best of" with all my songs remixed in original roots reggae. The album contains 12 songs, 10 classics from "Love Generation" to "I Feel For You" and two unreleased tracks: "I Wanna" and "Rainbow of Life" featuring Shaggy and Ben Onono. All the favorite songs have a different mood, very peace and love. The dance music fans of my work are going to be surprised, but I like to go where nobody expects me to go — that's why I think I am successful long term." Sinclar frequently appears in Spain, France, Italy… and Miami to spin his music. In Miami earlier this year for the Ultra Music Festival, Sinclar returns October 21st to perform at Amnesia nightclub. Sinclar embraces all that the city has to offer. "What I love is the mix of the population, from Latinos to Afro- Americans, and Europeans to Americans, they all live in perfect harmony to create the vibe that is Miami." Throughout his music career, Sinclar has been nominated and won numerous awards. "My work is very successful and I thank the clubbers from all around the world for that. They have been following me for 10 years. It amazing to see so many people in clubs singing my songs. It is also fantastic to be recognized by the professionals in the music business." Sinclar continues, "Music is my life and my goal is to share my emotions with musicians and create something from nothing that is going to touch people like it touched me. I love to see people smiling and singing my songs when I play them. I give them happiness and that is why I am happy. My job is to make the planet dance. This is a nice job!"
